FD Laddering & Portfolio Manager

Track multiple fixed deposits across banks, see your weighted average FD rate and maturity map, and simulate laddering strategies to balance liquidity and returns.

1. Add your existing fixed deposits

List each FD you currently hold. Use the Add FD button to insert new rows. You can delete rows any time.

Interest is approximated using simple interest on the stated tenure. For precise numbers, always refer to your bank statements.

1. Laddering strategy setup

Total cash you want to allocate into this ladder strategy.
Date when you plan to place the first batch of FDs.
How often you want some money to mature and become available again.
How many different tenures in the initial ladder. Longest tenure equals interval × rungs.
When you set interval and rungs, the table below will show each rung tenure. Fill in the rate for each tenure.
Rung Tenure (months) Rate (% p.a.)
Rate you could get if you put the entire amount into a single FD for the longest tenure.

This simulator uses simple interest and does not reinvest maturing FDs. In reality, a rolling ladder typically reinvests each matured FD into the longest rung.

Ladder vs single FD
Total interest - ladder strategy
RM 0.00
Estimated interest from all rungs in the initial ladder cycle.
Total interest - single long FD
RM 0.00
If you place the full amount into the longest tenure using the comparison rate you entered.
Difference (ladder minus single)
RM 0.00
Ladder usually trades a little interest for better liquidity. A positive value means ladder earns more.
Longest initial tenure
-
Based on interval multiplied by number of rungs. This is the lock in for the last rung.

Set your total amount, ladder interval and rungs on the left, then add rates for each rung. The summary will compare the initial ladder to a single long FD and list each rung's maturity.

What is FD laddering and why do people use it

FD laddering is a way of splitting a lump sum into several fixed deposits with different maturity dates. Instead of locking all your money into one long FD, you create a ladder of shorter and longer tenures. When one rung matures, you can either spend the cash or roll it into a new long rung. Over time this helps you reduce liquidity risk and smooth out interest rate risk.

Why a single FD is not always the best choice

Putting everything into one long FD can be tempting because the rate is usually higher. However, if you need money before maturity, you may face early withdrawal penalties or lose interest. If market rates rise after you lock in a low rate, your opportunity cost is also higher. Laddering gives you periodic access to cash while still keeping part of your money in longer tenures.
